OFAC List

Following the tragedy of September 11, 2001, President Bush signed Presidential Order 13224 . The Order made it illegal for any US citizen to do business with any person or entity listed on the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) list.

While its application to rental housing providers was initially debated, it is now routinely accepted that a property owner or manager should check an applicant against the OFAC list. This is an easy, inexpensive process, and it is offered by most credit reporting companies for a nominal fee.  Inclusion on the list should be grounds for denial of an application for rental, and it should be listed as such in your standard denial letter and in your application standards.  An applicant rejection which includes this as grounds for denial can be found at the Lightner Property Group store for a nominal fee.
